Pediatric Dental Services

From teething through teenagers, we will help keep your child’s teeth healthy!

Good Dental Habits Start at Home

At Pediatric Dentistry of Yuma we see your child twice a year to perform thorough cleanings and exams, but between those visits it’s up to you and your child to maintain their healthy mouths! Brush at least two times daily with a fluoride toothpaste—don’t swallow it—and floss once to avoid plaque buildup that can lead to cavities. This will help avoid cavities and cleanings in the office will be easy. Contact us today for an appointment!

Preventive Visits to the Dentist

When your child comes in for their routine visits, our dental team will complete a thorough cleaning to remove any plaque from their teeth. This aids in preventing any decay, gum inflammation or infection. Next, your child’s teeth will be polished, leaving them with a white, healthy smile. Digital X-rays will be taken to see how the teeth are developing, if there are any cavities that cannot be seen from an oral exam, and if there are any issues below the gums.

The dentist will examine that smile and look for cavities or signs of gum disease. He will discuss any recommendations with you and your child and our team will ensure that you both understand the proper techniques for good oral hygiene.

Cavities in Primary Teeth

In pediatric dentistry, the most common issue we see is early childhood decay. Cavities can occur in primary (baby teeth) or secondary teeth (permanent teeth).

A cavity in a primary tooth can impact the way a child eats because of discomfort, cause bite alignment issues, affect speech, cause pain, and lead to infections. All of these factors can also cause damage to the permanent teeth that are developing.
